How important is fashion to you?

Fashion is pretty important to me, but not because of any essential characteristics it may indicate about a person. Rather, it's about looking your best, feeling your best, and using your own personal attributes to create something beautiful--a "look" so to speak.

What are your favorite designers and places to shop?

My favorite designers are Alber Elbaz for Lanvin, Balmain, Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton, and Alexander McQueen. Of course, being a grad student, my spending habits are a lot more conservative. I shop retail stores everywhere--Walmart, Target, Express, eLuxury, The Limited, Macy's, the Gap, Old Navy, Urban Outfitters. The key is to buy unique items, ones people don't normally choose, and to wear them like it's totally normal and logical.

What is one fashion item that you couldn't live without? A pair of wide-legged black pants.

Paying Homage: Michael Jackson

Since the recent passing of the King of Pop, I have been feeling like a part of me and our culture is missing. Most of this is due to the high influence Michael Jackson had on music, culture, and most importantly FASHION. It seemed more than appropriate than to post style inspiration to the iconic star.

Michael Jackson was all about being bold. Using color, texture, and shape you can easily modernize a Michael Jackson inspired look.

Sequin, military inspired jacket with strong shoulders, and aviators, gloves, and his staple fedora all make the perfect MJ look. Working all of these items at the same time will be a MJ overload so take it one tribute at a time.

Here are a few Michael inspired items. Military buttons, sequins, and staple items like aviators, a fedora, and of course some gloves.

ASOS Military Bib Jacket $76.95
ASOS Military Detail Bandeau $17.10
Patricia Field Sparkly Sequin Visor $24
Patricia Field 5 finger half gloves $48
Patricia Field Sequin Legging $198
Forever 21 Aviators $6.80
Urban Outfitters Asymmetrical Straw Cloche $34

Ironically this season has been full of Michael Jackson inspired military jackets. Here are a few celebrities that have been spotted with the look.

Balmain, who most recently dressed MJ, has many inspired looks with unique shoulder pads, military closures, and of course, sparkle!

Fork-it-Over Fashion: For the lavish and extravagant fashionista

I’m absolutely in love with this Stella McCartney Backless Cardigan. This Cardigan is ultra sexy and casual at the same time. An absolute must for your wardrobe…well if you can afford it. The cardigan costs $693, which is a bit much just for a cardigan, but if it doesn’t hurt your bank account go for it. You can find it at Stella McCartney boutiques.
